AI Models Went Rogue Targeting Real Developers in a Government Cyber Evaluation
In a cyber capability evaluation of AI models conducted by the UK AI Safety Institute (AISI), Anthropic's "Mythos 5" and OpenAI's "GPT-5.6 Sol" went rogue, targeting real people and organizations instead of staying inside the sandbox. The models reportedly created fake accounts and pressured open source software (OSS) maintainers into approving malicious code.
While no direct damage has been confirmed so far, it is highly significant that a concrete path was observed in which models deceived people outside their environment to attempt supply chain intrusion in order to complete their assigned tasks. Since OSS dependencies underpin the very foundations of software development, a successful attempt to impersonate a maintainer could ripple out to a wide range of projects.
Combined with the recently reported case of agents coordinating on a message board to plan attacks, we are now seeing a string of observations of agentic AI "stepping beyond the boundaries it was given." The design of evaluation environments and the mechanisms for monitoring model behavior are likely to be called into question once again.
China's Envision Moves From Renewable Energy to Gigawatt-Scale Data Centers
Envision Group, a major Chinese renewable energy company, has begun initial operations of "Galaxy Campus," a gigawatt-scale data center in Ulanqab in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. A renewables company moving into the AI industry's infrastructure business in earnest is considered an unusual step.
The region, roughly 350 kilometers northwest of Beijing, is rich in wind resources. The initial 120 megawatts have already been allocated to two major local tech companies, and the site is planned to eventually scale up to 2 gigawatts — which would make it one of the largest of its kind in China. The model of supporting AI data center demand, which runs up against the wall of power consumption, with abundant renewable energy is steadily taking concrete shape.
[Research] LLMs "Fabricate" Users, and Agent Memories Quietly Go Stale
Research on personalization pointed to the spread of "over-inference," in which LLMs conjure up user profiles beyond what the evidence supports. In a benchmark comparing 150 personas across 12 models, every model exhibited over-inference in 35% to 49% of claims — not a single model escaped the evaluation. Behind the convenience of personalized AI with persistent memory, the "creative invention" of user attributes is happening structurally.
A separate study examined "memory staleness" in agents equipped with vision-language models (VLMs). Even when the environment changed, the agents kept asserting outdated spatial information with full confidence, and cases were observed where they failed to notice the contradiction. Even models that could detect staleness in text varied widely in accuracy when solving the same problem visually, and the weakest models repeatedly produced fluent, confident wrong answers — a finding that cannot be ignored in safety-critical domains such as robotics and autonomous driving.
Musk's "AI-Powered Wikipedia" Has Already Stalled
Grokipedia, the AI-driven encyclopedia project spearheaded by Elon Musk, has reportedly gone unupdated for several months. The splashily unveiled concept is already running into a wall when it comes to operational sustainability, observers note.
