Apple WWDC 2026 — High Expectations for a Major Siri Overhaul
Ahead of Apple's annual developer conference, WWDC 2026, the biggest spotlight is on a fundamental overhaul of Siri. The Apple Intelligence capabilities, which have been limited so far, are expected to gain conversational abilities on par with competitors in this update. The key question is whether Siri will evolve from a mere voice assistant into an AI agent that better understands context and can carry out complex tasks.
Beyond that, WWDC is also expected to bring expanded AI features that work across devices, as well as APIs for integrating AI into third-party apps. All eyes are on the keynote on June 10 (Japan time) to see what kind of differentiation Apple will bring to the generative AI race.
Thousands of Instagram Accounts Hacked via Abused Meta AI Chatbot
Meta has reportedly confirmed that its AI chatbot feature was abused to hack thousands of Instagram accounts. Attackers are believed to have illicitly obtained users' credentials by exploiting the AI chatbot's functionality.
The incident stands out as a real-world example of AI-powered social engineering attacks. This new threat model — where the very AI features a platform offers become the attack vector — is a challenge shared by other major services as well. Security design for AI features has become an urgent priority.
White House AI Advisor Sriram Krishnan Steps Down
It has been revealed that Sriram Krishnan, who served as the White House AI policy advisor, is stepping down from the role. Krishnan played a key part in shaping AI policy, and his departure could influence the direction of AI regulation in the United States.
Attention now turns to who will succeed him and how the change will affect the ongoing AI regulatory debates. The focus is on whether the AI safety and security initiatives pursued under the Biden administration will show a shift in direction as a result of this personnel change.
AI-Designed Universal Coronavirus Vaccine Passes First Human Clinical Trial
An AI-designed universal coronavirus vaccine has been announced as having passed its first human clinical trial (Phase I). According to Science Daily, the vaccine aims to induce immune responses against a broad range of coronaviruses rather than being limited to specific variants.
As AI-driven drug discovery moves toward practical use, this result marks a major milestone: AI has taken a vaccine from design all the way through a clinical trial. Depending on the results of the upcoming Phase II and Phase III trials, it could carry significant implications for next-generation pandemic preparedness.
Google Gemma 4 QAT — 120 tok/s Achieved on 12GB VRAM
The QAT (Quantization-Aware Training) release of Google's Gemma 4 is delivering remarkable performance on consumer GPUs. Benchmark results report that on an RTX 4070 Super (12GB VRAM), the Gemma 4 12B QAT model achieved an inference speed of 120 tok/s.
Paired with an MTP (Multi-Token Prediction) draft model, it recorded 100–130 tok/s on code generation and summarization tasks. That said, some inconsistency in quantization accuracy has been reported for the Gemma 4 12B QAT model, with some pointing out a larger deviation from FP16 compared to the MoE-based E2B/E4B models.
Meanwhile, in llama.cpp KV cache quantization, a new method called KVarN has achieved accuracy on par with formats one bit-width class higher than conventional ones: 6-bit KVarN matches q8_0, and 4-bit matches q5_0 — a major step forward for running local LLMs under VRAM constraints.
