Ideogram 4 Released as Open Weights — Opening State-of-the-Art Image Generation to the Community

On June 3, Ideogram AI released the inference code and weights for its image generation model **Ideogram 4**. Rather than a fine-tune of an existing model, it is a 9.3B-parameter DiT (Diffusion Transformer)-based model trained from scratch, featuring precise control through structured JSON prompts.

In third-party evaluations on Design Arena, it recorded a decisive first place among open-weight models, and in blind evaluations by professional designers it ranked second only to GPT Image 2. Its text rendering accuracy surpasses 20B–80B-class models, and on the layout control benchmark 7Bench it posted results that even outperform closed-source models.

It comes with a rich set of practical features: native 2048px resolution, aspect ratios up to 6:1, color palette conditioning, and placement control via bounding boxes. It is available on Hugging Face behind a gate, with fp8 and NF4-quantized versions offered.

Google Gemma 4 12B Arrives — A Small Model Approaching 26B Performance

Google's latest open language model, **Gemma 4 12B**, is drawing attention in the community. In benchmarks on an RTX 4090, it delivers coding capability nearly on par with Gemma 4 26B-A4B while keeping VRAM usage down to 9GB, making it realistic to run even on a 16GB laptop.

In one user's test, it was run as a coding agent using the Pi Agent extension in VSCodium, completing everything end-to-end from writing a Python script to running the tests. Its tool-calling capability is also strong, raising expectations for practical agent use cases.

Lovable Expands Partnership with Google Cloud — Scaling Usage 5x

AI coding tool **Lovable** has signed a multi-year deal with Google Cloud that will scale its infrastructure usage fivefold, it has emerged. Access to Anthropic's Claude models will also be expanded. As the race to build AI assistants intensifies, deep ties with cloud infrastructure are becoming a key competitive advantage.

Senator Sanders Introduces Bill Seeking 50% Public Ownership of Top AI Companies

US Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced a bill in Congress that would bring 50% of the shares of top-tier AI companies into public ownership. Arguing that AI's benefits should be returned more broadly to society, the bill is likely to spark debate across industry and politics. Its prospects for passage remain unclear at this point, but it signals mounting political pressure against the concentration of wealth in AI companies.

UK Competition Regulator Issues Order on Google's AI Search — Demands Opt-Out Rights for Publishers

The UK's competition regulator has ordered Google to display clearer links in its AI search feature and to introduce a mechanism allowing UK publishers to opt out of having their content used as AI training data. Regulation of the relationship between AI-generated content and original reporting is starting to take concrete shape, particularly in Europe.

EU Asks Households to Cut Peak-Time Power Use to Meet Surging AI Demand

The European Union has announced a policy of asking households to reduce electricity use during peak hours to cope with surging power demand from industry and AI. The impact of AI energy consumption on social infrastructure is surfacing as a political issue, and research from the United Nations University has also pointed to the ballooning carbon, water, and land footprint of AI.
