PM Takaichi Orders Cyberattack Countermeasures Over Claude Mythos

At a ministerial meeting on May 12, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi instructed the relevant ministers to strengthen countermeasures against cyberattacks, in response to the improved cyberattack capabilities of the latest AI models from US-based Anthropic, including "Claude Mythos Preview."

It is an unusual move for a Japanese prime minister to cite a specific AI model by name when directing countermeasures. Since the release of Claude Mythos, the risk of AI-enabled cyberattacks has been under discussion in countries around the world, and the directive suggests that the Japanese government is also stepping up its vigilance.

Concrete measures are expected to be worked out within the government going forward.

80% of AI Agent Companies Cutting Staff — Gartner Survey

A Gartner survey has found that roughly 80% of organizations whose operations run autonomously with the help of AI agents and similar technologies are moving forward with headcount reductions.

That said, the staff cuts are not immediately translating into improved return on investment (ROI). In no small number of cases, the know-how lost through downsizing and the new costs that come with AI adoption appear to be standing in the way of the expected gains.

While AI-driven efficiency continues to advance, the lesson — that simply reducing headcount does not by itself improve profitability — is one that companies now considering AI adoption would do well to keep in mind.

Amazon Employees Inflate AI Usage — FT Report

According to a report by the Financial Times (FT), it has come to light that Amazon employees are using AI tools for unnecessary tasks in order to pad their AI usage records.

By placing so much emphasis on "usage volume" as an indicator of AI adoption within the company, a side effect has emerged: employees repeatedly making perfunctory use of the tools. It is a case of metrics designed to measure progress in AI adoption starting to drift away from their original purpose.

For companies pushing AI adoption, the episode underscores the importance of evaluation frameworks based on business outcomes rather than usage volume.

Unitree Unveils Crewed Transforming Robot "GD01," Priced at ¥100 Million

Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics has announced "GD01," a transforming robot that a person can ride.

The machine features a mechanism that lets it shift from bipedal to quadrupedal walking, and the mass-production version is said to be priced at ¥100 million. The concept of a ride-on transforming robot is unlike anything seen before, and while the road to practical use remains unclear, it stands as a symbolic showcase of what is technologically possible in the field of robotics.

Wix Puts "Skills vs. Docs" to the Test Across 250 AI Agent Evals

The Wix Engineering team ran 250 AI agent evaluations to determine which works better: skill-based prompts or documentation-based prompts.

The result was that "there is no simple winner" — the findings showed that the better-suited approach differs depending on the type and complexity of the task. The study is drawing attention as research that offers practical insights for operating AI agents in production.

AI Is the Trump Card for Training Gen Z New Hires

With the spread of generative AI, a growing number of companies are putting it to work in new-employee training. Programs are gaining ground in which new hires practice customer service against AI avatars or get hands-on experience with AI-assisted system development.

Companies adopting these programs point to the ability to deliver efficient, practical training as a benefit, while also stressing that they are focusing on information literacy education because AI carries the risk of giving incorrect answers. AI may be the trump card, but what is required is to deploy it with a clear understanding of its limits.
