AI Hallucinations Expose Personal Information as Real-World Harm Grows

AI chatbots have been fabricating phone numbers and addresses belonging to real people in response to queries, leaving unrelated third parties to suffer harassment as a result. According to an investigation by The Independent, Google Gemini and ChatGPT have generated plausible personal information in response to questions such as "Who does this phone number belong to?" In some cases, the fabricated details happen to match the actual contact information of a real person, leaving victims exposed to a barrage of calls and messages they have no recollection of prompting.

The phenomenon, known as "AI doxxing," is drawing attention as a new risk in which AI hallucinations (the generation of baseless content) translate directly into real-world harm. AI companies need to step up scrutiny of their outputs, but a fundamental fix for hallucination remains out of reach.

Honeywell-Backed Quantinuum Files for IPO, a Major Step for the Quantum Computing Industry

Quantinuum, a quantum computing company backed by Honeywell International, has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States. Headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, the company recorded a net loss of $136.6 million against revenue of $5.24 million in its most recent quarter, but it is aiming to raise capital on the back of expectations for the quantum computing market.

Investor interest in the quantum computing sector has grown over the past several years, and Quantinuum's IPO marks a significant milestone for the industry as a whole. The company's technology has been applied to quantum-encrypted communication and quantum chemistry simulation, among other areas.

Humanoid Robots Ride the Next Wave of the AI Hype Cycle, but Practical Capabilities Remain Limited

A Bloomberg analysis notes that expectations for humanoid robots are shaping up to be the next phase of the AI boom's "hype cycle." While a large number of companies — including Tesla with its Optimus, Figure, and Agility Robotics — are racing to develop humanoid robots, their actual autonomy and versatility have not advanced as far as the media hype suggests.

Today's humanoids are mostly limited to specific repetitive tasks, and human-like flexible judgment and adaptation to environments remain challenges for the future. Even so, investment and the development race continue to accelerate, and the potential for long-term technological progress cannot be denied.

Microsoft's East Africa Data Center Delayed Over Payment Talks with the Kenyan Government

A large-scale data center project in East Africa, jointly planned by Microsoft and Abu Dhabi's G42, has been delayed by a disagreement with the Kenyan government over payment guarantees. The two companies asked the government to guarantee payments for the use of a fixed amount of computing capacity each year, but Kenya reportedly could not commit at the level they had hoped for.

The case shows that when AI infrastructure expands into emerging economies, reconciling interests with governments can become an unexpected barrier.

China's Exports Rebound Sharply on the AI Investment Boom, Up 14.1% Year-on-Year in April

China's exports in April rose 14.1% from a year earlier, beating market forecasts. Despite the impact of the situation in Iran on shipping, the investment boom in AI is lifting trade as a whole. China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is also urging stronger internal coordination on AI, making the government-led drive to boost the competitiveness of the AI industry increasingly clear.

Malaysia Considers Action Against Meta Over Fake Royal Family Accounts

Malaysia's Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has stated that the country is considering its response to Meta Platforms, including legal measures, over the company's failure to tackle fake accounts linked to the Malay royal families in the country.
